Vibration isolation mount for Clinamen S.U.T.

This vibration isolation mount (VIM)  for step-up transformers for MC cartridges is designed to isolate them from vibrations received from the mounting surface, in order to achieve the maximum signal-to-noise ratio from the analog reading system

Let us not forget that the movements made by the stylus to transduce mechanical motion into an electrical signal are of extremely small magnitude; therefore, the vibrations exerted by the surrounding environment on the VIM can adversely affect and modulate the useful electrical signal extracted. On the other hand, to shield against vibrations captured through the air, it is necessary for the enclosure in which the transformers are housed to be thick and heavy: this is why I use proprietary boxes designed by me, made from solid material.

Returning to the decoupling of the VIM from the support plane, the best way to achieve this is by employing a mass-spring system, with a subsonic resonance frequency (Fs). The damping of the system, although not clearly visible, is provided by the internal friction of the spring, and furthermore, given the magnitude of the movements being practically negligible (we are far from the systems implemented in automobiles with travel of hundreds of mm), a system with high damping is not necessary.

The VIM has also undergone an important design study, as can be seen from its shapes

The VIM Clinamen for SUT is designed to be dedicated to Clinamen step-up transformers with a CNC enclosure, specifically :

  • the current flagship "KATLA" featuring Vacoperm cores
  •  El Misti / El Misti mk2
  • Triple Gain.
  • It can also be used for any object that you wish to decouple from the electronics support surface, provided it fits within the dimensions of 144 x 150 mm and has a weight between 2 and 7 kg.

The VIM is meticulously designed and crafted. It is made entirely of polished AISI 304 stainless steel: the two external longitudinal beams are held in position by AISI 304 spacers with a diameter of 15 mm. This support structure, resting on the electronic support table, is secured via 6 springs (expandable to 10 if the VIM is to be used for suspending heavier objects) to the suspended platform measuring 144 x 150 mm. The rear end of the platform is enhanced by the Clinamen logo, intricately engraved in negative through laser processing. The underside of the support platform is dampened with a sheet of bitumen mixed with an aluminum foil.

The VIM is sold calibrated for the weight of the equipment that the customer declares at the time of purchase and is shipped in paper packaging.
